Emerging martial arts clothing brand Paladin Fightwear needed a logo to represent their start-up business. The brief for the job was succinct; I was to create a design from a black/white/red palette and incorporate a St James' Cross as worn by Paladin Knights if possible. Overall the logo had to represent the core values of the brand image and the sports associated with it.

I developed several potential solutions to the problem, each exploring a fusion of power and protection with precision and grace; traits synonymous with martial arts. After the client deemed that the Cross was not necessarily the correct approach we moved towards a new idea using an undulating ribbon (invoking the connotations of graceful movement and balance) forming the outline of a Paladin knight's armoured helmet (invoking the connotations of combat and protection) around the text. The client was much happier with this design and once signed off I used it to create the full logo suite.
